The Brewer Boys are Justin (17) and Nathan (14), a Fil-Am brother’s duo who sings a range of songs from new country to pop to classic rock and even bluegrass! Inspired by the music of the Everly Brothers, the boys pursue a genre of songs that caters to a wide age spectrum in music. Some of their cover songs include those of Johnny Cash, Crosby Stills & Nash, Big & Rich, Journey, Train and even Jason Mraz. They also write some of their music.
When they discovered The Old Crow Medicine Show's music, the boys' music preference somehow evolved. They got really interested in the bluegrassy/country sound and started experimenting with arranging songs they cover to sound more with strings. Then Mumford & Sons' got into the picture and the brothers began to create their own sound incorporating these to the new pop and country genres. With Nathan's newfound love for mandolin adding into the mix, and Justin's harmonica adding authenticity to the sound, Nathan started to dub it as "alternative bluegrass" or "newgrass." A refreshing sound from young teens in the music world, one has to either get drawn to it or not get it. For the most part, The Brewer Boys' followers seem to enjoy a new blend of something old and classic with something new and upbeat!
Born and raised in Temecula, California, these boys started performing at a very young age. They were a regular sight at school plays and community events and the duo took off after they auditioned for a national singing competition “Can You Duet” in Nashville, TN in 2008. They got through the third round and this opened great opportunities for them. In July 2008, they recorded their first professional demo CD of four original songs (they co-wrote one of the songs) at the historic Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, TN with John Carter-Cash co-producing their music. (They are currently remastering this CD with plans to add on a few more original songs and re-release it soon!) The boys are also very active in supporting local charities and organizations in the area and is a regular sight to community-sponsored fundraising and benefit shows.
The Brewer Boys together with TOM WIKER (drums), VINCE MENDOZA (lead guitar), and RAY AGUEROS (bass) become THE BREWER BOYS BAND! The expertise, experience, and professionalism these musicians bring to the band truly take the boys’ performance to the next level. The friendship, camaraderie, and respect these members have for each other clearly show with their exuberant, fun performances on stage. Concerts, festivals, and fairs are usually played by THE BREWER BOYS BAND; however, for small, private parties or luncheons, Justin & Nathan do provide acoustic performance on their own.
With Justin on the guitar, Nathan on his mandolin, and some top-notch musicians to make them sound good every single time, these brothers will continue to pursue their passion for music, as they harmonize their way into your hearts.
TOM started playing drums as a teenager. He played in various bands and did some professional recording in Philadelphia before moving out to California. VINCE's passion for playing the guitar began in 1976. His early beginnings of playing in high school garage bands led to credits that include recording with Michael Jackson, touring with 80's pop star Tiffany, tours of Finland and India and recordings on numerous radio commercial jingles. After years of playing the Southern California club scene, theme parks, USO shows, casuals and everything in between, the Southern California native is finally pursuing his first love of instrumental guitar with the release of his first CD, titled "Highway 154." Vince is kept busy these days teaching or working away in his recording studio! He has been a sought-after lead guitarist for various local bands and artists but plays regularly with THE BREWER BOYS BAND as his schedule permits. RAY is one talented bass player whose background and experience definitely shows in the way he plays the instrument. Ray studied music for a couple of years until his parents encouraged him to take another course that will get him a job after college. So temporarily, he stopped his music and 10 years ago, went back to the performing scene to be a part of a group called Salt Creek. He loves to write and collaborate music with other talented musicians. The Brewer Boys surely found a great mentor and friend in him.
